Secret Shine – Ember

This band was playing My Bloody Valentine inspired rock before the term shoegaze was invented. They have held up the torch all these years and grew into their own sound. The early Sarah records stuff is great. If you are a gazer then they’re definitely a highlight of the Sarah catalog.
Ember is still Secret Shine. I hear keyboards or heavily processed guitars that lend an upward gust of air (the notes could be descending , it’s a great tool to add to a chorus) to the other song parts. Wistful vocals that only Jamie Gingell could sing, paired with the higher register of Katyhrn Smith, I have come to know and admire the voices of this band. The other members play their parts of the composition like the clouds of a panoramic sunset. Experience and passion counts on this song.
Ember holds it own with a dreamy soundscape and a sense of longing that any seeker worth their salt can feel in their chest. I look forward to more material from Secret Shine. It’s exciting to hear the newer stuff against the former releases. The seminal Greater Than God EP and the CD discography that covers quite a few 7″ singles in particular.
